Guidelines for Defending Your Identification Online

Over 16,000 people joined this seasons DefCon 20 meeting in Las Las vegas, NV. Defcon is the biggest cyberpunk meeting where countless numbers and countless numbers pc techies spend an extended few days in the summer's heat training, learning, testing, and working together on the latest methods of coughing computers, mobile phone devices and even bank cards.

1. Community Wi-Fi is Dangerous.

First, know this: NOTHING is safe on a public Wi-Fi system. This means anything that you do online at A coffee house, the airport or at your accommodation can be intercepted by online hackers with comparative convenience. Second, only do what you would not mind having someone else see. Starting an Email from grandmother should be fine, probably surfing around the web too, but anything that requires a login name, financial data, individual details, or a data is a big red banner and best left for a properly secured private system. Windows Windows vista and 7 now display a warning message if you get connected to an unsecured system, but for Windows XP and Mac OS X, you can tell if a system is properly secured by the little 'lock' symbol next to the system name when linking.

Pick a Computer Keyboard

When it comes to notebooks, many people get captured up in specifications. They want the quickest processor chips, the most highly effective design cards and the greatest memory money can buy. They want performance so blazingly fast in a convenient package that they ignore other significant factors, such as ergonomics.

I'm specifically referring to notebooks computer key pad here. The key pad is one of the most key elements of a computer. It's the function that creates or smashes it. If notebooks computer key pad is painful, you might as well give it to your younger brother as a gift or send it to the recycle flower. What's the use of a 2500 money computer if you're getting cts from it?

That's why when fishing for notebooks, it's essential you try out the computer keyboard first. Here are some factors to consider:

Key Dimension and Position

One of the first factors you should take note of is the key size and how they are put on notebooks computer. Nobody wants to kind on a key pad with essential factors as small as bugs. You certainly don't want a key pad with far too large essential factors too. That just looks strange.

5 Steps for Network Enabling Serial Devices

Instruments and devices like card readers, PLC's, power meters and data acquisition modules support RS-232 and RS-485 communication. These devices can be used with computers, controllers or PLC's for logic and computing applications. RS-232 and RS-485 Serial Device Servers offer the flexibility and convenience of Internet enabling RS-232 and RS-485 devices. Internet enabling allows you to communicate with serial devices from remote locations or over Ethernet networks. Most RS-232 and RS-485 devices can interface with Windows based data acquisition software through Virtual COM ports. Setting up serial to Ethernet device servers is easy and can be done in less than five minutes. First you power up the device and then you set the IP address. Then you map the virtual communication ports. After you do that the serial devices can be used with your computer in the same way a standard communication port, like your USB port for example.

Here are 5 Steps for Network Enabling Serial Devices:
  1.     Power up the serial device server either with the appropriate DC voltage or with a Power over Ethernet Switch if the device server supports PoE. TDS-715 for example can be powered over a 12 - 48VDC jack with FRA05-S12-SU or it can be powered by a Power over Ethernet switch like NS-205PSE-24. You would power the PoE switch with a 10 - 30 VDC power supply like DIN-KA52F.
  2.     Connect the RS-232 or RS-485 device server to your network via Ethernet switch like NS-205 or a router if you are not already connected with a power over Ethernet switch. After you are connected you will need to configure your serial to device server with a desirable IP address, subnet mask and gateway. You can get the network configuration from your Network Administrator.
